Thank you for visiting our resources library.
This is a periodically updated folder. This is meant to help you set up and navigate the basics of conducting scientific research!
Take this as a step-by-step guide. We hope that is useful!

Make sure you start your ORCID ID right away! This is a method to automatically aggregate all your publications. Your ORCID ID is frequently asked for in academic circles
the setup is fairly straightforward.
This certification is required from all researchers involved in medical/biotechnology research. The process is fairly straightforward and doesn’t take too much time. The certification requires periodic renewal (every 3 years).
Familiarize yourself with the different types of the IRB and which ones is needed.
You can use this guide to know what forms are needed by visiting THIS link.
Before writing a manuscript, literature review, or even your IRB, make sure you import your references into whatever management system you and the team agree on. All these applications can be integrated into word processing software like Word (or even Google Docs). They have multiple reference styles and can be shared online so a team can work on it collaboratively.
KSU provides Mendeley and Zotero via their software website for students here
Again, there is a lot of material that guides you regarding using those systems - for example:
King Saud University is a subscriber to the Saudi Digital Library,
which has a rich and extensive catalog of books and journals. KSU’s subscription to SDL can be accessed here
There is a plethora of free online resources for statistics and probability, one of them is the free-to-use Khan Academy, where there are videos, exercises, quizzes and more!
Probably one of the most popular data analysis software, PSPP is freely available via KSU software library:
There is plenty of online resources that helps with learning PSPP/SPSS- this is one of them that is complete with datasets, example questions, and very useful tips:
and here:
The Unit runs a matching service for students.
Projects list gets updated by Friday every week:
If you are interested in working on one of the following research projects above, please fill the form:
The author(s) or the Student Research Support Unit of CMRC will contact the selected students.
This sign-up closes 9 AM of the following Wednesday.
The unit runs this free service for our students and trainees, as detailed in the schedule here. It can provide you with guidance and assistance on specific questions and obstacles you are facing with your project. The schedule gets updated with new names/or timeslots. Check the schedule here.
As your manuscript gets ready to be submitted, you are probably going to need to have an editor/proofreader to go through it.
There are a multitude of options out there
As a supplement to our guide, you will find on this page folders and booklets prepared by The Vice Deanship of Postgraduate Studies and Research. They are aimed to provide faculty and the members of the College of Medicine an insight into research facilities and research funding available.
Research Facilities In The College Of Medicine
This booklet is a collection of all labs, centres, and facilities that are based in or affiliated with the College of Medicine. The listing includes contact details and available techniques. This is useful if your research group is keen to run a certain experiment that your supervisor has no access to.
Current Funding Opportunities: Grants And Funding
This booklet is mostly if not entirely, geared towards faculty members, but it is useful to know as you could, as part of the research team, point to certain opportunities. Deanship of Scientific Research has various programmes that are aimed to support publishing as well.
